Shiori Akimoto
"After graduating from Central School of Ballet, I joined Teatrul de Balet Sibiu.
My experience of Ballet Central was particularly helpful to me, such as learning how to work as a group with all the company members, how to prepare costumes, and how to adjust the performance to fit the size of the theatre.
My first performance as a professional dancer was Swan Lake. I performed in all acts, including corps de ballet in Act 1 and Swans, and the character dance in Act 3. There were some performances in two different cities in Romania, Sibiu and Oradea. It was hard physically and mentally however I was able to manage it thanks to a lot of support from my seniors and colleagues in the company.
We just had the first show of premiere of Cinderella. I am very honoured to be involved in the process of creating a new work from scratch with the choreographer. During the rehearsal process of Ballet Central, we all worked together to learn the choreography and responded to the choreographer`s small changes. This experience helped me a lot. I was able to enjoy the first performance and it was an unforgettable memory for me.
As well as these two works, we are also practicing The Nutcracker. Thankfully, I have been given various roles, such as the parent role in Act 1, Snow, Waltz of the Flowers, and Arabian. I am trying to learn as many roles as possible that I am not playing in case someone gets injured or can’t perform.
I`m looking forward to going on tour to Lithuania and Germany in November and December to perform these works."
